A big thank you goes out to Indiana for making the 46th Annual Meeting a Huge Success
2016 Annual Meeting - The 2016 annual meeting was hosted by Indiana during October 17 - 20, 2016. The location was the Holiday Inn City Centre in Lafayette, Indiana. Ten states were represented at this year's meeting.
The meeting was a big sucess with presentations that included an open discussion on regulatory issues regarding industrial hemp and other Cannabis products; which are likely to impact many states in the future. There was also an excellent insect and disease workshop presented by Purdue Extension, that included many of the same samples that inspectors had found during the year. Agdia was at our meeting presenting about virus and virus testing in the field. The invasive plant 'kudzu' was also discussed, and how difficult the plant can be for state regulators to eradicate.
We had excellent presentations and open discussions about zika virus, and also meth lab awareness and saftey, which are concerns for inspectors who work in the field.
On the lighter side, we also had a lot of fun with our insect and disease slideshows after hours in the hospitality room. Our guest speaker during dinner was Dr. Tom Turpin who presented the many entertaining ways that he has found to promote entomology. Wolf Park was our tour and we were introduced to the wild canine research that was being done there; and sure enough EAB was found while we were taking the tour, which became another learning experience for members less familar with EAB.
The anual meetings and the inspector exchanges during the summer continue to be an invaluable learning experience where members can share knowledge. Thank you to everyone involved in the planning, and thank you to those who gave the excellent presentations that were front and center during the meeting.
The next meeting will be hosted by the state of Nebraska in October of 2017. Be sure to check back here for details as they develop.
